My New Home....

I'm getting my first apartment. I applied on Sunday and I'm hoping to hear back tomorrow on whether I was approved or not. Since this will be my very first apartment I don't really know the process but I love the place. It's 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I'm having a blast on pinterest, craigslist, and etsy planning my upcoming purchases.

I wanted to do an entirely second hand apartment where everything is used but I just can't do second hand fabrics that I can't launder so.....Some things will be purchased new, i.e., couches, upholstered chairs, etc.

Here's what I'm loving and inspired by so far. (If only I could afford all of it...)

Artsy Addicts Technique Blog Hop: Freehand Embossing

Hi all. Welcome to the 1st Artsy Addicts Technique Blog Hop. Whoot Whoot!!!

When Marion first told me she us to have a blog hop I was equally excited and nervous. I've never participated in a blog hop before. I am a blog hop novice, newcomer, newbie, noob, fish, neophyte.....Totally NOT in my comfort zone here, people. Marion hosts Ustream crops through Prima Marketing, she makes tutorial videos via Youtube, I mean she's a pro at these sort of things. I'm just a girl who collects way too much scrapbooking stuff.

But one thing I'm not is a person who backs down from a challenge. So the challenge here today is to share one of your favorite techniques....Oh is that all? Cool beans. I can do that.

So here goes.

Let's start at the beginning:

First start off with a messy desk. I always seem to work better when there are lots of things around me that I can draw from quickly and play with.

Hello messy desk that I love so much. Just looking at it gives me inspiration.

Next, gather a few items that you've been thinking about all day. You know, paint, stamps, flowers, etc., etc., etc.

Love that lady stamp. Just picked that up at Michaels today, along with those little clear beads at the bottom. Found those in the floral section, and they have a flat back. Got a huge bag of 'em. Plus a few die cuts and my newest stamps from the latest Papertrey Ink release.

Now on to the my project.

I have fallen in love with freehand embossing especially on vellum.

I punched this butterfly out using a Fiskars "All A Flutter" squeeze punch from PaperTreyInk linen vellum cardstock. Next I took my McGill Paper Blossoms Tool kit and used the 2 mm stylus to emboss an outline all around the butterfly "freehand." I placed the vellum cardstock on a few pieces of cardstock for a little cushion so that the impression would be deep.

Next I took the 1 mm stylus from the same set and traced my outline on my cutting mat. The hard surface makes the embossed outline bright white on the vellum.

I added a few rhinestones to the center of the butterfly for the body and attached it to my project.

And here is the finished project.

I simply love this technique because you can change up the look of any die cut or punched shape with just a stylus or bone folder and a few squiggles. How about doing a cross hatch pattern or open polka dots... That would be so much fun.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did putting it all together. My first blog hop post. I'm so proud.

I am the first leg of the blog hop and up next is Darlene Carroll. She is a super fantastic crafty lady from Australia and I know you are going to love her technique.  You can click  or click on the Artsy Addicts picture above to be taken to her blog.

.::Daily Thanks 4.23.11::.

Today I'm glad to have time with people who love me. Friends and family. Time to relax, time to play and have fun, time to hang out with my mom and dad, time to hang out with the girls. Time to be me, happily.

Thursday, April 21, 2011

.::Daily Thanks 4.21.11::.

Today I'm thankful for friends.

I have some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for. I've never been a girls girl. Growing up I've always had a few girl friends but I've never really understood or gotten along with girls. Now that I'm a woman I've aquired some great girl friends. My very best has been around since 6th grade. She's definitely my bestie. And in the last two years I've added 3 more ladies to that list. They are my co-workers and I call us "Teach-In-the-City." These ladies keep me sane in the crazy world of education.

What I love about my girl friends is that they accept me for who I am right now, they don't try to change me, and we have alot of fun. Before I met them I was a work-a-holic. I actually took my very first vacation last year when one of my girls was getting married on a caribbean cruise. Isn't that a shame. I was 28 and had been working since I was 15 and had never taken a vacation.

Don't worry, I have lots more vaca's planned for the near future.

Artsy Addicts Blog Hop Sign Up

Hi Artsy Addicts,

So Marion, Karla, and I have been secretly scheming planning some super fun stuff for you guys. Of course I can't mention it just yet but I'm so excited about all the new Artsy Addict events coming up. But there is one I get to share.

Aren't you excited??

I love blog hops and now we have one all our own.

As you can see this is a technique blog hop.

That means you need to create a project using one of your favorite techniques that you will share on your blog. What technique should you share? Anyone you like no matter how extensive or how simple.

Use the linky below to sign up for the blog hop.

It will only be open for signups until Monday, April 25, 2011 at 8 AM so get your name and your blog link in there quick.

I will compile the list and post it to the Artsy Addicts Facebook Group page on Sunday night along with a blog hop image similar to the one above that you can post to your blog for the hop.

For your blog post, all you have to do is show a picture of your project and give directions showing your technique that are easy to follow so others can replicate it. Then you will post a link on your blog of the person who is listed below you and the last (but not least) person will post a link back to the first person on the list completing our 1st Artsy Addicts Blog Hop. Yay!!!!

And since we're going to be hopping along.......I might just have a "little" greeting farm giveaway to go along with it. Feel free to do the same on your blog.

.::Daily Thanks 4.20.11::.

Today I'm thankful for Tylenol. After my visit to the dentist (orthodontist) I'm in a bit of pain today. It's still been a great day and I'm getting closer and closer to finding out what makes me happy.

I've be on a quest lately to be more of a producer and less of a consumer. I had a epiphany moment a few weeks back (probably after watching Oprah, I'm not sure) that I was consuming way way way too much. From clothes, to shoes, jewelry, furniture, books, and way too many scrapbooking supplies. I needed to make a change, so I committed to becoming more if a producer and less of a consumer, starting with my online presence.

So I have this blog thing that I infrequently posted things on and I figured why limit myself to crafty things when I really want to document my growth and my mission to live life more authentically and find my true identity. So I decided to just do me, in every and whatever form that I can with no qualms or apologies about it.

And here I am with no regrets. Like it, love it, or find another blog to read.

*ok, that's just rude, well not rude but not nice so if you don't like it or love it, please excuse yourself at this time. Thank you. :-D

**as you can see I'm a work in progress.

How exposed are you?

Did a quick Google search for one of my favorite bloggers this morning. I was looking for a previous post that they'd written about techie stuff, when I happened across SPOKEO.COM. Initially the search result gave me a list of links associated with my blogger but then it showed a map of the USA with all the placed marked where someone of the same name LIVED. I was a little taken aback by this so I did a quick little search of my name. Oh My Word. I did a little more digging and actually found a one search result that showed my previous address as well another one that showed my current one, a picture of my current home with the ENTIRE address listed, my home phone number listed, and my personal email address. WTH?!

I'm a pretty open person and all but I make sure that nothing about me is out there that I don't want to be out there. I Google myself at least a few times a year just to see how long it would take someone (or perhaps an disgruntled student) to find me and and my Facebook privacy settings are check regularly. There are quite a few people in the world that share my name but this information was a bit too much. So I did another quick Google search to find out how to have this information removed.  I completed the removal request for both profiles and had them both deleted within 2 minutes. It was easy peasy. Here are the steps.

1. Visit Spokeo.com

2. Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for yourself. You might have to be a little diligent here but most creeps are so you should be as well to protect yourself.

3. After you find the result that lists your information go to http://www.spokeo.com/privacy and enter in the link for your profile, your email address, and the captcha.

4. Spokeo.com will send you an email with a link where you can delete the profile that you requested.

5. Click the link and the profile is deleted automatically. Done and Done.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up. Take care.

.::Daily Thanks 4.19.11::.

Today I am going to start a daily series called Daily Thanks. I figure with all the changes that are happening in my life right now I need to take the time to give Thanks. Now I know it's called "Daily Thanks" and I'm committing to write this daily, but things happen and I hope my blog readers (who I love so much) will encourage me in my newest endeavor.

It's been a long day today with many challenges and successes. I'm still the worlds biggest procrastinator. Got to get better at that.

Today I'm thankful for crazy voicemails from a dear friend that make me laugh uncontrollably. I'm thankful for hard work and just rewards however small. I'm thankful for ambition that keeps me distracted from where I fear my thoughts may linger too long. I'm thankful for inspiration all around me and the keen eye to see it. I'm thankful for friends who accept me for who I am right now. I'm still learning to do the same. I'm thankful for the phrase "fake it until you make it" because it might be the only reason I have self confidence to this day. I think I've finally made it in that area.

I'm thankful for flowers and the beauty they have within. I hope to be like them. And my favorite are these.

[caption id="attachment_327" align="aligncenter" width="332" caption="Source: Jess Nichols via Pinterest"][/caption]

With all the different layers of the petals, I just feel like these flowers are beautiful, and hold a little mystery between those petals. Just like me. :-)

Forgive yourself...

"Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others."

That was the line that struck a chord, hit a nerve, tugged at my heart, or whatever you may want to call it. It hit home in a very big way. It came from this book:

Tuesday's with Morrie

I was sitting in my reading chair in my classroom while my students were silently reading and I came across this line in my book. There have been many times when I've been reading during this time and I'd come across something that reaches right to the heart of ME or the "ME" that I desire to become. I'd want to jump, scream, shout, or (more often) cry but that really would not be  appropriate while I'm sitting in front of a room full of 8th graders. I know this could be what we educators call a "teachable moment" but don't quite think they'd understand.  I digress.

This quote happens on page 164 and as much as I want to keep reading I stop and close my eyes for just a second, again I'm in a room of....well you get my point. I recall all the moments that keep me up at night; all the time I've spent worrying about other people opinions of me because I've said no to a request; all the times I've been called selfish because I didn't do what someone wanted me to do. This quote just resonates deep within me rearranging my thought process, my definition of who I WAS, and my goal of who I want to be.

FORGIVE YOURSELF. I hear it all day over and over in my mind, just loud enough not to distract me but persistent enough to keep it at the forefront of my mind ALL DAY.

FORGIVE YOURSELF. For all the inadequecies that you think you have. For all the goals that you have yet to reach. For all the paths you were too afraid to take.

FORGIVE YOURSELF. For all the years you tried, in vain, to live up to everyone else's expectations of you while losing your own definition of self.

FORGIVE YOURSELF. For all the years spent finding yourself again and pissing so many people off because you stopping being their "YES MA'AM"

FORGIVE YOURSELF. For all the things you can not control nor change.

Right now I'm working on forgiving myself for all those things and more. I don't know how long it will take and I don't know where I will be when it finally happens nor how I will feel about myself or you then. And after that I can start to forgive them/YOU. (Colossians 3:13)

Edited to Add:

Saw this on Facebook today and it so matches my feelings above. Sometimes things just happen to coincide. Or you can say GOD confirms things in many ways, even via Youtube. lol.

Supporting our Troops

I post this in honor of my Dad and all of the other service men and women who give so much to keep us all safe.

International Picture of the Year
Here are two very touching photos honored this year.

When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at the Reno Airport , Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac.

During the arrival of another Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport , Major Steve Beck described the scene as so powerful: 'See the people in the windows? They sat right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're on the plane that brought him home,' he said 'They will remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.'

The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. 'I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it,' she said. 'I think that's what he would have wanted'

Blue Fridays

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing blue every Friday. The reason, Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority' WE are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something blue. By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of blue much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If everyone of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in BLUE and it will let our troops know the once 'silent' majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked 'What can we do to make things better for you?' is .'We need your support and your prayers.' Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something blue every Friday

Collecting Buttons + more...

Hi all.

Daddy Update: He is doing better now, still a few things to check out and make sure are ok before he gets a completely clean bill of health but we are very optimistic. He's out of the hospital and back home being a retired old man (hardly!). And yes, he's my daddy and always will be. Love you Daddy!!! (Can you tell I'm a spoiled non-brat?...he he)

Anywhoo,

So last week I posted a card I made for a Embellish Magazine Masculine challenge. I loved it so much I decided to do another. Once I get going........WATCH OUT NOW!! Lol. I'm on a roll.

Here's a card I made for the Totally Hues Challenge # 4

Everything you see on this card is handstamped. There is no patterned paper. I used to be a paper hoarder but I've moved away from it a bit (although I love love LOVE the Crate Paper Portrait Collection......it's currently in my cart though).  The more I get into the habit of creating cards, especially for challenges, I really get into stamping. Really loving stamping right now.

What I like: I'm loving the pink damask paper in the background. It's the Impression Obsession Reverse Damask Cover-A-Card stamp. It gave the most beautiful even covered stamped image. Definitely one of my favs. I stamped it in Melon Mambo ink by Stampin' Up! The Gingham paper is another IO Cover-A-Card stamp in, what else, Gingham. Super cute right??

The lady image is from the March 2011 Unity Stamp Co. monthly stamp kit club. She is so super cute. I can see getting a lot of use out of this stamp. Oh and the sentiment is from PTI - Studio Style Stamp set.

What I'm not feeling: The distressed paper behind the floral paper. Not so sure about that one. Liked it initially but not feeling it anymore.

Speaking of collecting things, I'm currently awaiting my second order from PTI this month. I ordered basics earlier last week and then ordered from the new release a few days later. As I was preparing my labels for my CD cases I realized that I've collected quite a few PTI stamp sets. I absolutely love their products because they go with my style so well, and I feel like they are so versatile. I'm not a big collector. I don't have any other collections of anything in my house but my craft studio is a whole 'nother story. Between PTI stamps, the Greeting Farm stamps, and Copic.....I've got quite a few collections going on.

What do you collect?

Well that's it for now. I need to call my Daddy and make sure he's doing ok. He has another doctor's appointment on Monday.

Sweet Stamping,

Angee Lee

Embellish Color Trends: Masculine - # 1 Dad

Last week was spring break for me. I didn't get a whole lot of crafting done, like I'd planned, because I was at the hospital all week with my dad. He had a allergic reaction to either some bad seafood he'd eaten or some medication he'd taken. It caused his throat to begin to swell. All the swelling woke him up in the middle of the night and he got up and drove himself, DROVE HIMSELF, to the VA hospital. (Crazy man. He said he didn't think he'd make it if he waited for an ambulance. The doctors said he made it to the ER just in time. Can't even imagine driving myself to the hospital while my throat is, essentially, swelling shut. Scary...)

Once he got to the emergency room they went to work right away giving him epinephrine to open his airway and stop the swelling. Well, the epinephrine reacted with another one of his medications he takes and sent it heart into tachycardia, or super fast heart rate (it was at over 120 beats per minute). So they gave him another medication to counteract the epinephrine. Needless to say 2 days later his blood test indicated that he'd has a small heart attack (probably from the Tachycardia), so they did a angiogram to make sure there wasn't any blockage in his heart.  Luckily there was no blockage in his arteries around his heart but the tachycardia did send his heart into fibrillation, which means your heart doesn't beat normally it quivers which is very dangerous. (As you can see spending 5 days at the hospital will teach you a bit of latin) To fix the fibrillation they had to perform a cardioversion (shock to the heart) to stabilize his heart rate. So he had the cardioversion and everything went back to normal. They will be monitoring his heart rate over the next month to make sure everything stays on track.

All that happened in a span of 5 days and I'm glad to say that he got out of the hospital on Friday and is doing well.

While I was awaiting the phone call that he was going to be release I happened across Sarah Martina's blog via my google reader and her entry to the latest embellish color challenge and I decided to give it a go.

Took me about 20 minutes to get this one together. And I like the result. Definitely will be doing more challenges as they are so much fun (and definitely live up to their name sake).

So hop of over to the Embellish Mag Blog to take a look at the design teams cards and submit one of your own.

So how did I do? I couldn't quite figure out how to get all the colors to go together so I just went with texture. All of the cardstock has some type of texture from the woodgrain pattern from the PTI Background Basics: Woodgrain stamp to the herringbone pattern on the Mat Stack 4 stamp from PTI. I also stamped the card base in IO Canvas Cover-a-Card stamp, but you can't really tell.

This challenge was so much fun and definitely a challenge. Masculine cards walk a fine line between fussy and streamlined. I hope my dad like this one. 3 Month's until Father's Day but I'm just glad that my dad is happy and healthy and at home.

Sweet scraps.

Everyday Love + Impression Obsession

Every once and again I get in a very gracious mood. I am fortunate enough to have a few really good friends in my life. They really keep me grounded and uplifted. I've known them since college. We haven't maintained constant contact since college but they are really good people and we are never apart for too long. And when we reconnect that bond that we have is instantly rekindled and we can always pick up where we left off. I'm a very self sufficient person and rarely, if ever, ask anyone for anthing, (besides advice) but these friends of mine are the type to know what I might need when I don't even know I need it.  For that I am truly grateful and in that spirit of generosity I sent out a few thank-you-for-being-my-friend cards.

Here's the first.

Everyday Love

I put some of my new purchases to good use on this one. I used the MftStamps Notebook Edge Dienamics die to make the edge on the Simply Chartreuse cardstock from Paper Trey Ink. I also used the new Parisian Lace Die from Paper Trey Ink, along with the Labels 14 nestabilities dies. Don't you just love those letter beads? I got that idea from Sasha Holloway a few months back and they had been sitting in my stash for months. Finally broke them out for this card and another layout I did earlier this year and I think I may need to order more. I love those little beads so much. The sentiment is from a Technique Tuesday Stamps set "Everyday Words" by Ali Edwards. I just love her sentiment stamp sets.

For the background I used the Criss Cross Cover-a-Card stamp by Impression Obsession. OMG I'm so in love with these cover-a-card stamps. They are absolutely fab. They are deep etched red rubber cling mounted stamps and they measure 5.75 x 5.75 so they cover the entire front of a standard size card. They are simply amazing. And yes I have more of these on order too. (i have a problem, i know). lol.

Here's the second card:

The little stuff

For this card I used the Paper trey Ink Tag Sale # 4 die with Hawaiian shores cardstock and I used another Impression Obsession die on this card background as well. It's the woodgrain cover-a-card. They stamp so well and you only have to stamp them once to cover an entire card. Oh and the best part is they come with their own mount. It's called a mega mount and it is concaved so it sort of rocks across the card giving you a good impression all over the front of the card without missing spots. The stars are die cut with the Stacking Stars dienamics die by MFTStamps, as well. Oh and the sentiment is from a Technique Tuesday Stamps set "Everyday Words" by Ali Edwards as well.

I'm really enjoying mixing and matching companies and all the great results you get when your organized and you can easily pull lots of things together (because your scraproom is organized and everything has it's place instead of.......i digress). Well I'm off to do more homework.

BTW, both these pics are from my iphone and the Instagram app. Love this app.

ASO: It's Magical!

It has been a long few weeks of graduate school, teaching, new job responsibilities, and scores of other things going on in my life lately. I took the GRE today and I think my nerves (on top of my hectic schedule got the best of me). That being said I did fairly well but I think I could have done better with more preparation so I might just take it again. At $160 a test I might not. lol. Do you know how many copic markers I could buy with $160 dollars?? Ha!!

Speaking of Copic Markers I got a super great deal on them the other day on ebay. And when I say super great I'm not exaggerating. 80 marker lot for $220. 220/80=$2.75 per marker. You can't beat that right?? And to add the cherry on the top I lost lot of 50 markers the day before in a bidding war and they sold for $202. Score on that one. As my new friend Mel says, "That's the way to lose." I must agree.

On a more crafty note, my dear friend Marion Smith started a great club of women who love to trade, swap, and scrap. If you haven't already heard about our facebook group you should definitely join. Not only to you get to swap crafty stuff every month but you get awesome kits like the February kit that I used to make this card.

Now let me just say that I'm not a victorian-vintagy-lace kinda girl, but the finding in this kit, the papers, and the awesomeness that is Marion Smith really got my creative juices going when I got my kit in the mail today. So here it is.

When I first got the kit I was in awe of all the cuteness and this card just simply came together. I'm loving the Rolled Rose Dienamics from MFTStamps. I was able to get them as soon as they were released, but I had to wait almost 6 weeks before I could get the original Rolled Rose Dienamics because it sold out so quickly. But I stalked it finally got it.

I didn't put a sentiment on this card. Let's just say I did that on purpose. He. He. But seriously as a scrap newbie I still have lots of problems with sentiment placement. Just where would you put a sentiment on this card??? And the die cut already had the word magical on it so I didn't to put anything else on the card with words that might clash with that. I like it. No sentiment needed.

On the update front: I just started my second class for graduate school on January 15th, and in addition I am studying to take my GRE at the end of this month as well. (I have to take my GRE before the end of my current class) In addition to all that I have been working on things for the blog, a wedding scrapbook for friend, a baby book for another friend, and learning new scrapbook techniques. I'm thinking of taking a few classes online this year too in photography. My friends have been requesting me as a photographer recently since they all think I'm creative: Where do they get these ideas?? lol.

Giveaway Alert: My blogger friend of mine Naomi Chokr's husband, Amir, has just launched his blog and he's having a huge giveaway. Pearl earrings anyone?? Click the picture below to enter.

That's all for now.
